. The board of trustees shall serve without compensation except that the city council, by resolution adopted by a majority vote of the members of the city council, may authorize the payment of not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100) per meeting not to exceed five meetings per month as compensation to each member of the board of trustees. Each member of the board of trustees shall be allowed his or her actual necessary traveling and incidental expenses incurred in the performance of official business of the hospital as approved by the board.
