. In each county with a population of more than 10,000 and
less than 10,500, as determined by the 1960 federal census, to assist
the court in the transaction of its judicial business, a majority of
the judges of the superior court for such county may appoint one
official phonographic reporter to report the proceedings in the
court. The reporter shall hold office during the pleasure of a
majority of the judges of the court. The reporter shall perform the
duties and be allowed the fees as elsewhere provided by law.
