. To the extent that funds are available in the State
Department of Health Services' budget for the 1994-95 fiscal year for
this purpose, the department shall convene a consensus conference to
address the issue of testing or treatment to prevent neonatal group
B streptococcal disease (chemoprophylaxis). The conferees shall
include, but not be limited to, representation from the California
Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College
of Obstetricians and Gynecologists District IX, the California
Medical Association, the California Conference of Local Health
Officers, and the Group B Strep Association. The conference shall
convene at least once during the 1994-95 fiscal year. The department
shall develop, based on the proceedings of the consensus conference,
a standardized written summary on group B streptococcal disease and
guidelines on the prevention of neonatal group B streptococcal
disease, no later than July 1, 1995. If the department determines
that state funds are not available, the department shall make every
effort to obtain appropriate federal funds for this purpose.
