. (a) The board is authorized to establish the position of
chief of police. The chief of police shall be a duly sworn peace
officer who shall be appointed by the board and who shall meet the
current requirements of the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and
Training pursuant to Title 4 (commencing with Section 13500) of Part
4 of the Penal Code.
(b) If the board determines that more than one peace officer is
needed, the board shall contract with law enforcement agencies
located within the County of Marin or the County of Sonoma for the
additional law enforcement services of one or more duly sworn peace
officers who shall meet the current requirements of the Commission on
Peace Officer Standards and Training pursuant to Title 4 (commencing
with Section 13500) of Part 4 of the Penal Code.
